Honeymoon Adventures in Santorini: Part 1 – Lovers in Paradise

Our journey to the picturesque island of Santorini, a dreamy honeymoon destination, didn’t start off as smoothly as we’d hoped. It was a whirlwind of emotions, from baggage mishaps to the sheer beauty of the island itself. Join us as we recount the first three days of our Santorini adventure.

Baggage Blues – Munich to Istanbul

We stayed a few hours in Munich, where we boarded a flight to Istanbul, the first leg of our journey to Santorini. Arriving in Istanbul at 18:00, we were eager to continue our voyage. Trevor was fortunate enough to claim his baggage swiftly, but Chelsea’s suitcase was nowhere in sight. We waited anxiously for nearly an hour before deciding to report the situation to the airport administration. To our dismay, we learned that Chelsea’s luggage had not made it onto the plane and had gone missing. This unexpected setback cast a shadow over our excitement, and we reluctantly filed a lost baggage claim.

Santorini: A picture-perfect beauty.

The following day, we finally arrived in Santorini on September 27 at 7:45 AM. Stepping onto the tarmac, we were greeted by the sight of this mesmerizing island, a place that had long been a part of our dreams. Determined to make the most of our time here, we rented a Jeep for the duration of our stay. Little did we know that driving on this picturesque island would be a thrilling and, at times, nerve-wracking experience. The winding roads, steep cliffs, and unexpected twists and turns required us to relearn how to drive, but we embraced the challenge.

Despite the initial jet lag, the sheer beauty of Santorini more than made up for any tiredness we felt. The iconic white-washed buildings with their azure domes and the breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea left us in awe. Santorini was living up to its reputation as a honeymooner’s paradise.

Our first tour: Catamaran Sunset Cruise

Our first day on the island was dedicated to rest and recovery, allowing us to combat the lingering effects of jet lag. We took leisurely strolls along the caldera’s edge, savored delicious Greek cuisine, and simply absorbed the stunning surroundings.

Our spirits soared on the second day as we embarked on a Sunset Catamaran cruise with barbecue feasts and refreshing drinks. Sailing the crystal-clear waters and witnessing the mesmerizing sunset was an unforgettable experience. Returning to our hotel, we received the delightful news from our virtual assistant, Dawn, that she had successfully tracked down Chelsea’s baggage in Munich, and it was on its way to reunite with us. This unexpected twist filled us with joy and anticipation for the days ahead.

A Day of Wine and Gastronomy

Our third day on the island was dedicated to exploring Santorini’s vibrant wine culture. We embarked on a journey through the Santorini Wine Museum, where we delved into the island’s rich winemaking history. Next, we visited the picturesque Ventsanos Winery, followed by Gavalas wines, indulging in wine tastings that delighted our palates.

As the sun set, we concluded our day with a sumptuous dinner at Pyrgos Restaurant. The blend of Greek flavors and modern twists in the cuisine was a culinary journey in itself, leaving our hearts full and our taste buds satisfied. With great anticipation, we retired to our villa, excited about the adventures that awaited us on this enchanting island.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of our Honeymoon Chronicles in Santorini, where we continue to explore this paradise and create cherished memories together.

With Love,
